Silkmoths and more: Nudaurelia eblis

Always fun to rear something out of the Nudaurelia genus. The caterpillars of most species are large and colorful and many (but not all) are easy to keep in captivity. Among the easy ones eblis might even be the easiest. Really, this is child's play, which makes it more fun. It doesn't always have to be difficult. Eblis - if you can find livestock - is a good species for newcomers. They tolerate company fairly well (tough overcrowding is never a wise thing to do, not for this one, not for other species) and will stay healthy within a wide range of moderate to high(er) temperatures. Same for the humidity, which can be moderate to somewhat higher (never wet!). Wild eblis caterpillars are often found on Chaetocarpus, Manotes, Ochna, Mangifera and Acacia. In Europe they have been successfully reared on Rubus, Mahonia and Salix. They will probably accept many other plants. So yes, I'm somewhat enthousiast about these. Easy, large and colorful and accepting many European alternative food plants, what more do you want? Colorful moths? You have it ... later this year. They will probably produce another flight in one to two months.
