Silkmoth of the week: Automeris beutelspacheri

Nope, they sure don't let them rush themselves. The moths have only one flight per year and usually only appear when the temperatures are higher for more then a month and with a longer period of increased humidity (misting daily). In captivity this means July or even August before they emerge. They are worth the wait though. This smaller Automeris is quite attractive. The wingspan is between five and a half and seven and a half centimeter (comparable to the more well known Automeris io). .This species is restricted to the southwest of Mexico.
