The Sphingids: Eupanacra elegantulus

A few more pictures today, not because they are something rare or special - they really are not - but simply because I had very little else to do this afternoon. Eupanacra elegantulus is a very common Asian species -similar to Eupanacra mydon- that flies from Laos and Thailand to Indonesia, including Singapore and Malaysia. The females have a lighter ground color then the males. This is not the largest hawk moth. In size they are comparable to the European small elephant hawk moth (Deilephila porcellus). The wingspan is somewhere in between four and five centimeter. The pupal stage is short, only two to three weeks. The moths emerge as long as the humidity is high enough. They brood continuously when kept at living room temperature.
