The Monkey Moths: Pseudojana pallidipennis

They may not seem all that impressive in these photos, however this is a large species of monkey moth (Eupterotidae). The wingspan is somewhere in between ten and thirteen centimeter. There's not that much known about them (or about the other members of the genus). They occur from the northeastern Himalayas throughout Myanmar and south into northern Thailand. They have only one annual flight (or at least in captivity they have, might be different in the wild where they experience a different climate then what I can provide). The caterpillars developed during last summer (see my post from August 3th 2018 for the beautiful, large and hairy caterpillars). The pupae stayed dormant from August until this spring when some females hatched. Other pupae are still dormant.
