Such a lovely species. Meet the African Pachymetana horridula, emerging already after a short pupal stage of only two to three weeks. Higher humidity triggers the moths to eclose. There is still fairly little known about this small Lappet. So far they have been recorded from Ivory Coast, Congo (RDC), Gabon (the moths in this post are from the Haut-Ogooué province in the east), Tanzania and Zambia, but it is very likely that they are much more widespread throughout West and Central Africa. They are probably often overlooked, being of modest size. The wingspan is somewhere between four (males) and five and a half to six centimeter (females).
