Silkmoths and more: Afromurzinia lutescens part 1

Time for the annual tiger moth from Malawi. And nope, I still don't like rearing tiger moths, but it's hard to resist taking the females when they come to the light. Afromurzinia lutescens is not the largest species. In size they are comparable to members of the Spilosama genus, in which they were originally described. I suppose besides their small size, the real reason why I don't like them is because they are so ridiculously easy to rear. When you get eggs, you know you will have moths. Where is the challenge in that? Anyway, they make it quite easy to find food plants in the middle of the winter. This brood was on a diet of mostly Lamium and Lamiastrum, with some Rumex, Sambucus, Althea, Stellaria and Urtica mixed in. The upside of rearing this type of tiger moths is that they grow amazingly fast. They started to pupate in approximately one month (some a bit faster, some a bit slower).
