Rothschildia triloba

Rothschildia triloba has the large and fat caterpillar typical for all members of the orizaba group. No wonder they were formerly considered to be a orizaba subspecies, before they got upgraded to full species status. The rearing is in most aspects the same as for orizaba. Keep them warm in spacious and well ventilated plastic containers. They grow very well on Prunus serotina, but other Prunus species like for exemple laurocerasus are readily accepted too. So is Ligustrum ovalifolium. It's a fast growing and voracious species, going from freshly hatched caterpillar to cocoon in less then a month. Because of their appetite triloba caterpillars make quite the mess and regular cleaning is a must to keep things healthy.
