Silkmoth of the week: Automeris cecrojaliscensis

The Mexican Automeris cecrojaliscensis is a fairly recently described (2011) species out of the large cecrops group. Many species out of this group have colorful caterpillars. Same goes for cecrojaliscensis. I posted the larvae last year (August 27th) and you really should take some time to look them up. They are among the most beautiful Automeris caterpillars I've seen so far. This is not the easiest Automeris to rear. The caterpillars are difficult, so is waking up the pupae. They pretty much do whatever they want. Since May, I have now and then a male showing up, but then long weeks of nothing. Very annoying. In Mexico there is also only one flight, mostly in July.
