Silkmoth of the week: Automeris egeus

This is the largest Automeris species I've ever reared and one of the largest members in the genus. The wingspan can be as much as fourteen centimeter. Really spectacular creatures. Egeus occurs in the northern half of South America with records from all countries south of Panama going all the way south into Bolivia and Brasil. When kept warm and fairly humid they brood continuously with a short pupal stage of plus minus four weeks.
