Silkmoth of the week: Lobobunaea acetes

Such a fantastic species! I got these eggs mid August, directly from la Forêt de Missahohe near Kpalimé in Togo. This is a common species in West and Central Africa, from Sierra Leone to Uganda and south to Gabon and the Congo's. The adults are on the wing several times a year, with reported flights in August, Oktober/November and January/February. In captivity they brood continuously as long as the conditions remain favorable (warm and slightly humid). Acetes is not the largest species in the Lobobunaea genus. The wingspan is between eleven and thirteen centimeter. The males are usually larger then the females, although the difference isn't that much. The fore wings of the males are also a little more falcate then those of the females. Getting them to pair indoors can be quite challenging.
